Founded in 1999, CARIBBEING is curators, producers and purveyors of all things Caribbean that 100% Caribbean-inspired and made in Brooklyn – such as Brooklyn-made tea towels and stationery.
Conceptualized in 1999, CARIBBEING is a multidisciplinary nonprofit organization dedicated to showcasing Caribbean film + art + culture in Greater New York City and around the world.
Part of CARIBBEING’s mission is to illuminate the Caribbean experience as well as its significant impact in NYC and Diaspora communities.
CARIBBEING’s programming reflects the diversity and artistic contributions of the Caribbean including Afro-Caribbean Basin countries such as Cuba, Panama and Colombia and Diaspora communities such as Brooklyn’s Flatbush, Toronto’s Brampton and London’s Notting Hill.
CARIBBEING’s public programs + events have been presented at Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn College’s Whitman Theater, Flatbush Dutch Reform Church, Brooklyn Public Library’s Caribbean Literary and Cultural Center, MoCADA, ReRun Theater, Pulse 48, Maysles Cinema, TriBeCa Cinema, Queens Museum of Art, Caribbean Fine Art Fair in Barbados, The 13th Annual Summer Film Academy in Poland, and Havana, Cuba for the Caribbean Film Forum and Market.
Based in Fl@tbush, Brooklyn, cariBBeing is the brainchild of Caribbean-American (Trinidadian) Shelley Vidia Worrell.
